To be a center of excellence in all sciences related to Physiology, recognized nationally and internationally for producing competent physiologists and researchers who contribute to the advancement of medical education, evidence-based healthcare, and scientific inquiry in Pakistan and beyond.
Mission
The Department of Physiology is committed to imparting quality education in human and systemic physiology through innovative teaching methodologies, fostering a culture of research and critical inquiry, and preparing graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional values needed to excel in academia, research, and healthcare. The department strives to integrate basic physiological concepts with clinical relevance, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to address the evolving healthcare needs of society.
Objectives
- To provide high-quality postgraduate education in Physiology in line with national and international curricular standards.
- To develop competent physiologists capable of teaching, conducting independent research, and contributing to healthcare delivery.
- To promote a culture of scientific research and inquiry among faculty and students through funded and collaborative research projects.
- To integrate basic physiological sciences with clinical applications for better understanding of disease mechanisms.
- To build capacity of faculty through continuous professional development, training workshops, and exposure to modern teaching-learning methodologies.
- To establish state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for practical training and research in physiology.
- To foster collaboration with national and international institutions for academic and research advancement.

Core Activities
- Teaching & Learning: Delivering structured lectures, practicals, tutorials, and problem-based learning sessions in Human Physiology for postgraduate programs (M.Phil/Ph.D Physiology).
- Research: Conducting basic and applied research in areas such as cardiovascular physiology, endocrinology, neurophysiology, reproductive physiology, and exercise physiology; supervising research theses of postgraduate scholars.
- Practical & Laboratory Training: Conducting hands-on laboratory sessions covering hematology, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and nervous system physiology experiments.
- Assessment & Examination: Designing and conducting formative and summative assessments (MCQs, SEQs/SAQs, OSPEs) in line with outcome-based education (OBE) frameworks.
- Faculty Development: Organizing and participating in workshops, seminars, and training sessions on modern pedagogy, research methodology, and biostatistics.
- Community & Clinical Correlation: Linking physiological concepts with clinical case discussions to enhance students' clinical reasoning skills.
- Academic Collaboration: Engaging in joint research and academic exchange programs with other departments, institutes, and universities, nationally and internationally.
- Publication & Dissemination: Encouraging faculty and postgraduate students to publish research in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
