About

Biography

Dr. Irshad Ahmad is an Associate Professor of Molecular Biology and currently serves as the Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Pakistan. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and an MPhil in Biotechnology from the University of Peshawar. Dr. Irshad has made significant contributions to the fields of molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences, with more than 15 years of experience in academia, teaching, and research.

His areas of technical expertise include bacterial culture and sterile techniques, gene cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, recombinant protein expression and purification, and protein detection and analysis using SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. He also has extensive experience in bacterial membrane preparation and fractionation, detergent solubilization of membrane proteins, and transport activity assays using radiolabeled substrates and inhibitors. His expertise further includes kinetic analysis of ligand binding using steady-state and stopped-flow spectrophotofluorimetry, as well as the characterization of protein secondary structure and thermal stability using Circular Dichroism spectroscopy. Dr. Ahmad has been actively involved in research projects focusing on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, recombinant technologies, and vaccine development. He has supervised and mentored numerous postgraduate students, including MPhil and PhD scholars, contributing to the development of research capacity in molecular and biomedical sciences.

He is an HEC-approved supervisor for MPhil and PhD scholars in the field of Molecular Biology and Genetics. His academic contributions include the authorship of two books and three book chapters, in addition to more than 60 research publications in national and international journals. Dr. Ahmad remains committed to promoting academic excellence, strengthening research infrastructure, fostering international collaborations, and translating scientific research into innovative and locally relevant healthcare solutions.
