First World Anatomy Day 2020
The First World Anatomy day was celebrated on the 15th of October 2020 at the Khyber Medical University. This was a Blended event with combination of a seminar and webinar where speakers from all over Pakistan joined online while the faculty and alumni of Khyber Medical University attended it on campus.
This year, the theme for the world anatomy day was “Teaching and learning of anatomy during the pandemic”. The aim of this activity was to acknowledge the efforts of all the anatomists both at under and postgraduate level, who managed to not only teach but also conduct research and enhanced their students learning amid the COVID Pandemic.
The activity commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Dr. Habiba Rashid AP Anatomy IBMS, KMU introduced the audiences to the event’s presenters. First online presentation was by Prof Dr. Ayesha Rafi Shifa College of Medicine, who joined us from Shifa Tameer- e-Millat University, Islamabad and spoke on “Impact of Covid-19 pandemic on teaching anatomy in under-graduate medical and dental curriculum”. Her presentation was followed by a talk of Prof Dr. Aliya Zahid Head of Anatomy Department at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore who shared her “Experience as Head of Department”. Next webinar was by Prof Dr. Samreen Memon Head of Anatomy Department at LUHMS, Jamshoro who expressed her thoughts on “Impact of distant online learning on undergraduate Anatomy learning during Covid-19 pandemic: An experience at Government Sector Medical University in Pakistan”. Dr. Sarah Jadoon our MPhil Anatomy graduate shared her experience of “carrying out research during pandemic” while Dr. Najma Baseer, AP anatomy IBMS, KMU shared “Research furth of KMU anatomists amid pandemic”. At the end there was question answer session which was followed by closing comments by Dr. Zilli Huma, who thanked the participants and highlighted the significance of blended learning in situations like the current pandemic. She also acknowledged the efforts of MPhil/ PhD anatomy scholars and TMOs in organizing the world Anatomy day. The activity ended with refreshments for attendees.
